Ⅰ.How to use suture anchors?
Surgery steps
Cut open the tissue :
Select an incision, gently separate the tissue, and ful ly expose the area to avoid damage to vascular nerves around.
For example, when the Achilles tendon ruptures, the fractured end needs to be exposed; If it is a patellar fracture, it requires a longitudinal or transverse incision in the front.
Selection and placement:
Anchor Choose: Choose appropriate material based on bone quality (such as bone density) and determine what model and size is needed.
Implantation method: After drilling the bone cortex, the anchor is implanted into the bone (usually up to 2-3mm below the cortical bone), and some anchors need to be monitored by imaging (such as a C-arm X-ray machine) to ensure accurate positioning
For example, in a fracture of the lower end of the patella, the anchor is driven into the anterior edge of the patella at an angle of 45°, with the tail of the nail exactly at the bone cortex.
Ⅱ.What are the three types of anchors?
Here are three types sports medicine anchors:
Metal anchors: It is widely used in the early stages, but it may cause cartilage damage, bone loss, and image interference.
Biodegradable anchors: It is made of biodegradable materials, it is unneed for a second surgery to remove them. However, some bioabsorbable anchors is unstable during the process, which may lead to sterile inflammation and cysts because of the anchors, and the impact force is stable.
Fully sutured anchors:It is emerging in recent years, its advantages is small, soft , knot-free design, and causing minimal damage. Its unique design form an anchor by tightening the sutures after being implanted into the bone tunnel, achieving a secure fixation.
In addition, anchors with properties and excellent mechanical performance, such as PEEK anchors, have gradually become a choice in medical area. Each type of anchor has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the doctor will choose the appropriate type of anchor based on the patient's specific condition and the needs of the surgery.
